Notice of Destruction of Special Education Records
Special Education records, which have been collected by the Riviera Independent School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of special education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for a period of seven years after special education services have ended for the student. Special education services end when the student no longer is eligible for services, graduates, completes his/her educational program by age 22 or moves from the district.
After seven years, the records are no longer useful to the district but may be useful to the parent/guardian or former student in applying for Social Security benefits, or other purposes.
Destruction of records is the best protection against improper and unauthorized disclosure.
Notice regarding the destruction of records older than seven years old is published periodically and posted on this website before the records are destroyed.
This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of the Riviera Independent School District’s intent to destroy the Special Education records of students whose special education services ended as of the end of the 2014-2015 school year. These records will be destroyed unless the parent/guardian or eligible student notifies the school district otherwise. The parent/guardian or eligible (adult) student may request a copy of the records in writing or in person prior to April 1, 2022, at the following address:
